Fish treats are an excellent source of high-quality proteins and essential omega-3 fatty acids. These nutrients promote healthy skin, a shiny coat, and support your dog's joint health.
Fish treats are generally suitable for dogs of all ages and breeds. They are easily digestible, making them particularly good for dogs with sensitive stomachs or allergies. Sea fish are especially recommended for dogs with heart conditions. Fish, due to its high content of omega-3 fatty acids, can be beneficial for dogs with rheumatic issues. However, be mindful of any potential fish allergies. Always consult your veterinarian for specific health concerns.
Our fish treats come from:
Fish contain many nutrients such as proteins, essential fatty acids like omega-3, and vitamins A, B, D, E, and minerals or trace elements like iron, sodium, potassium, calcium, magnesium, phosphorus, iodine, and selenium. The high content of omega-3 fatty acids can help reduce inflammation and lower elevated blood lipid levels, as well as strengthen the cardiovascular system and lead to a shiny coat and healthy skin. Fish also contains a balanced combination of polyunsaturated fatty acids omega-3 and omega-6, making it easily digestible. Omega-3 from animal sources is bioavailable, meaning the body, in this case the liver, does not need to convert it as it does with plant-based sources. Fatty cold-water fish like salmon, perch, or cod are also rich in selenium, which counteracts heavy metals in fish.
Vitamin A supports digestion and strengthens the nervous system, and is especially important for your dog's eyes, skin, coat, and bones. B vitamins are involved in cell formation and energy production. Vitamin D and K are essential for the formation of bones and muscles, thus strengthening the immune system and promoting overall well-being. The antioxidant function of Vitamin E protects cell membranes from free radicals, aiding in wound healing and cell renewal, and supports overall healthy skin and hair. The minerals in fish are necessary for your pet’s blood and muscle formation, as well as for its energy supply.
If you are looking for a fatty fish, options include trout, carp, and salmon. Many dogs love the oily taste of salmon. However, overweight dogs should avoid it. Leaner fish types and seafood include cod, perch, lobster, and shrimp. They are very suitable for diets, bland diets, and sensitive stomachs.
Ideally, fish should be free from the enzyme thiaminase or it should be destroyed by heat. Thiaminase breaks down Vitamin B, making it unusable, which can lead to Vitamin B1 deficiency. Fish species that do not contain this enzyme include salmon, cod, sprat, herring, mackerel, halibut, plaice, eel, and pure freshwater fish like perch, trout, and pike.
Store the treats in an airtight container in a dry, cool place to keep them fresh and flavorful, and to maintain their nutrient density. Opened packages should ideally be used within a few weeks.
